1991
Rich gold color of oxidation the wine shows its age. The clarity though is fantastic. Not too much in the nose except for some strong maderisation character and some honey nuances. In the mouth it is interesting. Of course it has lost all its "Chardonnay" character, but the old maderized fruit and oak make a nice blend. Past its time.
1995
Gold color showing some oxidation. Intense, rich and creamy nose of older dried flowers blended with honey and vanilla nuances. In the mouth, the attack is showing strong acidity balanced by a rich texture. A multi-dimension diversity of fruits from burned apple to pear and honey moving layers after layers. A good length of older fruit, maderized flavors but still nice when you think the wine is 15 years old…
1996
Golder. Similar but less intense bouquet. Good intensity of fruit. Rich and round in the mouth with some maderized flavors. Less intriguing in the mouth. Strong acidity, fruit and honey finishing.
1997
Look at the color. So different from one year ago. Brilliant gold like a new wine. The color promises bouquet delight. Let’s check. Yes it is there. What a bouquet no sign of maderization here. A nice complex nose of fruit blended with characteristic finesse of chanterelle. In the mouth, it is simply superb. Good weight, very good balance. This wine shows that, in wine like in life, balance is an essential part of good aging. The wine finishes a bit short but, gee, the flavors. Classy and classic VGS Chardonanay.
1998
Forget the young chick move on to maturity! Back to the older and mature bouquet. The nose is deep, intense, and takes you in. Rich and heavy on the attack, this wine reminds me a creamy morel sauce: heavier than 1997 in texture. The acidity is still strong. That’s why the fruit is so lively while subdued, blended. A very balanced long finish.
1999
Definitely VGS nose. When you walk in the forest on dry, not wet, leaves of eucliptus, tilleul, laurel the nose here is made of these flavors. It is intense. The wine also shows how beautifully French oak contributes to the wine with its subtlety but tremendous presence. Cut a fresh bulb of fennel and smell the wine. You got it! The wine finishes lightly, lively, like after you ate into a green apple.

Spectacular, young and bright straw color. Beautiful VGS Chardonnay nose. The bouquet is deep, intense, fresh, and lively. On Mount Veeder the cooler climate protects the nuances in the berries so the wine is so complex because nothing is “cooked” by the heat. The mouth is rich and silky, a good weight without being heavy. One of most elegant California Chardonnay to drink and enjoy. The finish is so long, full, rich but subdued all the elements perfectly integrated. The French oak finds here its perfect place. It supports the aging of the fruit without overwhelming it.
2002
Golden color. The bouquet reminds me of the rich banana cake prepared by a friend for me during my Annapurna adventure. The same delicate but rich banana with walnuts nuances and a good amount of butter to round out. In the mouth, the wine is creamy, rich and full. The length is spectacular: long, elegant and very complex with layers of fruits.
2004
Nice bright color. Beautiful bouquet of young fruit which include melon and pear, but also some citrus. Because of the Mount Veeder growing conditions, the acidity is what keep these wines alive and the bouquet so aromatic. In the mouth, the wine is still a baby and is evolving towards the richer, creamy style. Superb finish long, delicate, present, intriguing in its complexity.
2005
Nice yellow bright color still young. A little nail polish that disappear fast after aeration and then leads to developed and integrated aromas of a 6 years old Chardonnay with mature fruits like tarte tatin and caramel and a touch of honey. Really delicious in the palate. It’s rich, dense, full, sits well in the palate and very long. The finish is impressive; the acidity is going down so it should be enjoyed within the next 2 years.
2006
Still the color of a baby, bright and lively. Very nice bouquet, fresh, deep and rich. Youthful and intriguing. In the mouth the wine is loaded with ripe fruits perfectly framed by the acidity and alcohol. So many facets and layers enhanced by the toasted tones given by the long fermentation in barrel which also adds a creamy texture to the wine. Great balance in mouth, the wine is interesting and offer a multi-dimensional finish. Will continue to age nicely for 5 years.
