Live large, drink VGS.

For years and years rumors have run rampant regarding the true meaning of VGS. Please, let us clarify any misconceptions you might have!

Winepedia defines VGS as: "A wine so pure and true, its virtues exude layers of pleasure to all who drink it". While we at VGS agree with the fictional winepedia about the "pleasure" part, they are still a bit off the mark!

The Wine Observer defines VGS as: "The highest level of wines you will encounter on this or any other planet, truly out of this world…VGS = Virtual Grape Superiority!"

Although we are humbled and honored to be included in the company of Chateau Saturn and Clos Venus, we feel our wines are best enjoyed on "terra firma"!

The Wine Campaigner defines VGS as: "I have tasted all the wines of the world and VGS wines are at the pinnacle of their industry. Quite honestly, in my most un-humble (and subsequently Latin opinion) VGS can only mean one thing, Vitis Grandus Selectus!"

Where do we begin with all this? Let's just say VGS means so much more, and at the same time, so much less.

VGS is an attitude: quality and elegance without pretention.
VGS is a pleasure: to enjoy and to share.

VGS: shhhhh! Don't listen to rumors. Good things speak for themselves.

10VGS Chardonnay

The 2010 vintage has a strong acid backbone, reminiscent of Old World wines, which is going to ensure a long aging. Entirely fermented with its own natural yeasts, the wine is unfiltered. Brilliant yellow-straw color. The length of the natural fermentation in barrels creates an extremely complex nose where vanilla and oak flavors are integrated into the fruit developing into a pretty unique and complex, rich bouquet. The attack in the mouth is fresh and crisp and very lively. The first flavors of apple and citrus are moving very fast to richer, deeper fruit nuances of melon and pear. Then the flavors broaden and blend into layers after layers. The wine is round, ample with a soft creamy texture that comes to support and accentuate the multi-dimension of the flavors. The finish is long and, with aging, the wine will gain depth and richness that will make the finish extremely complex.

I don't normally drink Chardonnay, but, after I had the VGS Chardonnay at the 2007 Labor Day Lobster Feast, I knew it was Very Good...

The VGS Chardonnay is liquid gold... it is my all-time favorite.

I look forward to each new vintage of the VGS Chardonnay like it's a bottle of liquid gold that is going to arrive on my doorstep. I can't wait to taste it next to the previous years' vintages and have never been disappointed.

The VGS Chardonnay is like "butta": it is rich, complex, powerful, yet elegant, refined and the finish so long... I can taste it forever!

09VGS Zinfandel

2009 was a very good growing season for Zinfandel and it translates into the wine: the color is deep red and bright, the bouquet is extraordinarily aromatic distinctive of Zinfandel with its red berries ranging from raspberries to blueberries and a lot of spices: pepper, anise. All this nicely blended with the natural sweetness coming for the aging in oak... In the mouth, you have a palette of red fruits, spices, and oak that creates that interesting arrays of flavors making the wine dense and remarkably complex, with a medium body and a lingering finish that melts seamlessly into fine layers of toasted oak supported by a soft tannin structure. This wine is a harmonious blend of intensity and elegance. That refined style that made VGS so well known for. It is superb to be enjoyed in its youth and will gain so much personality and depth with age.

What you are saying about this wine
My fondest memory of your fabulous VGS Zinfandel was at a gathering at my home. I served several bottles and it was a huge hit. We met one couple for the first time, and we have become great friends. Ten years later, they still talk about the great wine I poured that night.

Chateau Potelle VGS Zinfandel is a wine that I am not afraid to serve to my friend.....a wine distributor.

When I discovered what VGS meant, I knew ours would be a long, fantastic relationship. That was in 2000. Thanks so much for all the great VGS I've had & all that's to come. VGS Zinfandel is one of my all-time favs and it's the sexiest wine bottle of all time.

09VGS Syrah

This Syrah is not shy. You’ve got to love these mountain vineyards to deliver such intensity and character in the fruit to produce this blockbuster wine. Extremely extracted, the color is dark and even darker! The nose is both full and complex with explosive aromas and flavors of blueberries, blackberries, vanilla, cedar, leather and somewhere probably some tobacco.  The wine’s weight fills your mouth and sits right there. It immediately finds its place. It is dense and full. It is heavy in its body but does not taste heavy because the flavors and fruits are so powerful, aromatic and exuberant that they bring lightness. Very beautifully balanced, rich, round and intense, it shows great elegance at the same time.  If you are lucky enough to be one who gets it, you are very envied! This wine is sold out the day it is released to our valued wine club members.

Wow! I opened up a bottle of the 06 VGS Syrah last night. Outstanding!! What a beautiful experience that was from the first whiff to the last drop!

07VGS Cabernet Sauvignon

On our rocky mountain vineyards, the vines work very hard. The root system goes deep to find its nutrients. The vines yield a small amount of grapes per acre and the berries are really tiny. Combined with our natural farming and winemaking, they produce intense, refined yet forceful wines. Exuberant with a lively nose of cherries and strawberries blended with some vanilla from the barrel aging. In the mouth, the wine finds immediately its place: it is ripe, round and ample and fills the mouth with complex rich flavors which begin with red berries and evolve towards chocolate, liquorices and spices.  The tannins are well integrated and the length is...long. Delicious now and will develop to more complex flavors for the next 15 years. Leave the wine to aerate in your glass or decant it. It opens up to new dimensions.

What you are saying about this wine
In Texas, the saying that someone has "a big hat but no cattle" implies the owner is trying to impress without substance. The VGS Cabernet not only has a big hat, but the bottle contains the entire damn herd. What a full bodied, explosive taste.
Ted E., TX
VGS stands for what? No way! Then taste the 2005 VGS Cabernet. Oh, wow. Let the name stand.
